Lastovo through history

  • 7th and 8th century - the island is inhabited by Slavs and Neretvians
  • 11th and 12th century - the island is governd by Zahumlje
  • the end of the 12th century - the rule of Hungarian-Croatian kings
  • 1252 entered the Republic of Dubrovnik, which in 1310 approved the municipal autonomy and statute.
  • 19th century - The French republic and the English govern
  • until 1918 - the island is governed by Austria
  • until 1943, Lastovo was governed by Italy
  • since 1945 Lastovo is a military base and a ban for foreign guests/visitors
  • in Republic of Croatia Lastovo is developing a tourist destination
